Spend In: Casa Antillana

There is an oasis in the Colonial Zone that becomes an ideal setting for those seeking exclusive, intimate accommodation that embraces historic heritage and conservation. It is Casa Antillana, a property built in the colonial era with classic Roman ceilings and brick arches.

Casa Antillana

In the vibrant Colonial City of Santo Domingo, Casa Antillana stands as a hidden gem within the luxurious boutique hotel Casas del XVI. This historic residence, dating back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is located on the picturesque pedestrian Macorís Street, directly across from the charming Casa Macorís.

Casa Antillana stands out for its tropical colonial Antillean style, a fusion that celebrates the joy and warmth of the region. The generous use of wood, wicker, rattan and vibrant fabrics contribute to the welcoming and colorful atmosphere of the house. The main door, painted in a fresh leaf green, welcomes you into an interior space that reflects the essence of the Caribbean.

The interior design is a delight for the senses. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a living room adorned with wicker and rattan sofas, complemented by vibrant fabrics and walls decorated with details in wood and the exquisite works of Patricia Read, which capture the essence of nature in two delicate collages. The flow between the patio and the terrace is fluid, thanks to the wide white doors that allow the entry of natural light and the integration of the spaces.

In every corner of Casas del XVI visitors are enveloped in a vibrant narrative that intertwines rich Dominican history with modern luxury and comfort. Casa Antillana, in particular, emerges as an authentic tropical refuge, offering families and small groups an intimate and sophisticated experience, while staying in an exclusive and warm environment that enchants.

Guests can enjoy personalized service, such as multilingual staff, wellness treatments, and gastronomic offerings.

The interior courtyard is dominated by a majestic sea grape tree, which inspires the design of the pool. This piece of aquatic art features leaf inlays in tempered glass, complemented by white archways and antique brick walkways that accentuate the distinctive character of the house.

Casa Antillana houses three bedrooms—two Luxury Superior and one Superior Colonial Room—that open onto the patio. Each room offers a unique personality, with a combination of natural textures and authentic materials. The interiors are dressed in light cottons, white linen and embroidered textiles that reinforce the identity of the house. The spacious and luminous bathrooms feature hand-painted wooden floors and restored antique tubs that add a touch of historic sophistication.

The front door of Casa Antillana is framed by a white portal that respects the original colonial masonry. The grounds of the house once belonged to the friars of the Order of Santo Domingo, whose temple and convent were located north of the residence.

Casas del XVI, located in the heart of the Colonial City, offers guests an immersion into the rich history and culture of Santo Domingo. Since opening in March 2014, the hotel has grown from two to eight houses, two of which are reserved for events. Each property maintains its historic character with Roman ceilings and brick arches that have endured over the centuries.

The Casas del XVI collection stands out for its commitment to the preservation of architecture and the celebration of Dominican culture.
