Spend In: Casa del Pozo

The integration of luxury elements guarantees the guest that staying at Casa del Pozo will be a unique experience. Each element is designed to offer a sensorial experience, where the ancient history of the house and modern life coexist in a harmonious way.

Casa del Pozo, located on Padre Billini street, and part of the Casas del XVI hotel, is a building with a rich history dating back to the same century. Throughout the centuries, the house has undergone multiple transformations and restorations, but has maintained a profound connection with its colonial past, which makes it a living testimony to the architectural evolution of the city. This house, which spans an area of four hundred and ninety square meters distributed on a single level, has been carefully restored to preserve its original characteristics while incorporating contemporary elements, uniquely fusing the ancient with the modern. This building is one of the many architectural joys that make up the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, a site that was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1990. The city, founded in 1496, is characterized by its incredible preservation of colonial structures, and Casa del Pozo is not an exception. During the 16th century it formed part of a much larger urban complex, linked to the origins of the Spanish settlement in the New World. In its early years it was a property of strategic importance, located on one of the main streets of the city.

Every bedroom, every living room and every nook have been carefully designed to offer guests the utmost wellbeing

The patio, surrounded by the walls of the house, is the heart of the design and the epicenter around which the different spaces of the residence are distributed. This patio is a clear example of the connection between the old and the new, as it not only reflects the colonial aesthetics, but also integrates into everyday life through its functional design.

The concept behind the restoration of Casa del Pozo is to preserve the old while incorporating the new, and creating a space that celebrates its history.

What was originally a colonial mansion, with majestic architecture and details of great historical value, the house has been restored and adapted to contemporary standards. Nonetheless, the essence of its origin has been carefully preserved, which gives it a unique character and an incomparable attraction both for tourists and locals who seek a profound connection with the history of the city. One of its most notable characteristics is, precisely, its name. What gives the house its title was a fundamental element in its restoration. Originally, the well served as a source of vital water for the inhabitants of the house and the vicinity. It was carefully restored and now forms part of the design of a modern plunge pool, which perfectly complements the colonial architecture. The restoration was a complete undertaking, but it was approached with a profound respect for history and the original materials. The well, one of the most representative elements of the house, was integrated into the design of the swimming pool, creating a perfect fusion between past and present. The objective of the restoration was not only to return the house to its original splendor, but also to create an environment that reflects modern life without losing the colonial essence.
